     Ah, Heidi, that adorable little orphan girl who has shown up in more incarnations then I care to count. I don’t know whose winning out in the race with Little Orphan Annie, but the resulting films are usually the same heartwarming stories about little girls that we all seem to love (is it just me or is the sarcasm getting a little intense here?). That is not to put down you people out there who really like these movies. And you know who you are too.

     Lee Holdridge provides the music for this adaptation that stars Jason Robards and Jane Seymour. The main theme is unbelievably…cute (for lack of a better word). Since this is a TV movie, I hope you enjoy that main theme too since it pops up a lot (though not as much as the main theme in P.T. Barnum). The music is generally light, although it gets dark at times, especially near the end.

     In all seriousness, the music isn’t really bad at all. However, it would have really helped had Holdridge realized that an orchestra is generally made up of more than just the string section. This makes the music sound incredibly light and doesn’t really give it that extra emotional punch that a fuller utilization of brass sections could have given it.

     This is a nice quiet score, and if you’re into that kind of music, then you’ll probably want to check this out. Holdridge fans will probably need no incentive. Unless you have a reason for trying to obtain this score, I would recommend that you don’t make the effort. ***
