Given his roots in jazz, it seems natural that
Barry would be approached to score this film. That in itself will be the
deciding factor in whether this score is good or not. Basically the score
is simply honest-to-goodness jazz music, the kind that you generally find
in crowded nightspots or hear in old movies. There are orchestral moments,
but the jazz rules here.
In addition to Barry's jazz/score, the CD also
contains original pieces by Chet Baker. The sound quality takes a noticeable
dip compared to the modern cues, but they still sound pretty good.
If you're a fan of jazz, or just a John Barry
die-hard, then you'll probably want to check this one out. While the score
is good, if you hate jazz this one is definitely not for you. ****
