     Schindler’s List excels in it’s difference. Like The Thin Red Line, this is a CD full of quiet music, consisting of plenty of violin solos by Itzhak Perlman, though there are choir pieces scattered throughout. This score is an almost total departure from Williams’ earlier material, but perhaps that was to be expected given the material he was scoring to. In any event, even with the turnaround from his usual style, Williams manages to deliver an intriguing piece of music.

     The opening tracks on the CD are serene and beautiful, introducing the themes and setting the stage for the score. A nice touch is alternating of theme playing between the orchestra and Perlman going at it solo. This gives the themes enough difference between the two methods to be very interesting. The music grows darker as it progresses, though it doesn’t turn too depressing. It is rather more sentimentally saddened. It provides enough emotional tug on its part to work excellently with the visuals in the movie. It still never loses its beauty, and is only enhanced by the use of a choir in different areas.

     If you enjoyed The Thin Red Line, or if your just looking for something different, you might want to give this one a spin. Williams continually shows that he knows his stuff and that he can score for whatever situation is needed, and with over and hour of beautifully orchestrated music, what more could you ask for? *****
