This high quality compilation from Silva Screen celebrates the music from the numerous Western films that have been churned out by Hollywood over the years. This two CD set continues Silva’s commitment to Hi-Def Dolby Surround encoded CDs and, as usual, the sound quality is second to none. This compilation covers a wide range of material and utilizes selections from such composers as John Williams, John Barry, Jerry Goldsmith, Bruce Broughton, Elmer Bernstein, Max Steiner, and, of course, Ennio Morricone. The performances are very good, but I know that some of you purists out there will probably find something to nitpick about. Unfortunately, the linear notes are severely lacking in content and give only simplified information regarding each movie. If you’re looking for a good compilation of main titles from several classic westerns and composers, or if it’s the high quality of the album that appeals to you, this will definitely not be a waste of cash. If you’re a fan of previous Silva compilations you will not be disappointed. **** |
